A direct clash between the families of
two influential strongmen leaders in Mokama- Bihar Election 2025 ||
The Janata Dal (United) (JDU) and the Rashtriya Janata Dal
(RJD) are facing off in the Mokama seat in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections.
This contest has become highly controversial due to the battle for supremacy
between powerful politicians.
Political Contest: This contest in the Mokama seat is
attracting attention not only from Bihar but across the country. This election
is being seen as a direct contest between the families of two influential
strongmen leaders in Mokama.
Clash of Strongmen:
Former Mokama MLA Anant Singh, known by his supporters as
"Chhote Sarkar," is contesting on a JDU ticket in the 2025 Bihar
Assembly elections. To defeat him, Veena Devi has entered the fray from the
RJD. The RJD has fielded Veena Devi, the wife of former strongman MP Suraj Bhan
Singh.
Mokama politics has long been influenced by strongmen and
power. This time, the contest is resurfacing the old rivalry between Anant
Singh and Suraj Bhan Singh.
Key Election Issues:
Promises of development versus muscle power are being seen. However, local issues include unemployment, migration, and the problem of waterlogging in the Tal region. Despite promises of development on these issues, the influence of muscle power remains a decisive factor.
Caste Equations: Election analysts are also watching to see
how the influence of caste equations in the assembly constituency will change
in this election, or whether muscle power will prevail.
Context of the 2022 Election:
Anant Singh's wife, Neelam Devi, won the 2022 by-election on
an RJD ticket. However, the circumstances have changed for the 2025 election,
and this time Anant Singh is the JDU candidate, while the RJD has fielded Veena
Devi from his rival's family.
Nomination and Campaigning:
JDU candidate Anant Singh filed his nomination with a large
number of supporters. Meanwhile, RJD candidate Veena Devi also filed her
nomination with a large number of supporters.
JDU Candidate Anant Singh:
Criminal Cases: In October 2025, Anant Singh filed his
nomination as the Janata Dal (United) (JDU) candidate from the Mokama
constituency for the Bihar Assembly elections. He declared 28 criminal cases
against him in his election affidavit. In January 2025, Anant Singh surrendered
to the court following the Sonu-Monu shooting incident and was sent to judicial
custody.
In July 2025, he received relief from the court in another
case, the Raghunath Singh shooting case. In October 2025, Anant Singh also
surrendered to the court and obtained bail in a cybercrime case.
Anant Singh and the 147 Cases: Former MLA Anant Singh was
released from jail in August 2025 after being granted bail by the Patna High
Court in the Sonu-Monu shooting case. This case, also known as Panchmahal
Police Station Case No. 5/2025, involved a shootout between Anant Singh and the
Sonu-Monu gang. 147 cases related to this incident and involving Anant Singh
emerged. In August 2024, the Patna High Court acquitted him in the AK-47 case.
RJD Candidate Veena Devi:
Veena Devi is the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) candidate from
the Mokama constituency in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections. She filed her
nomination on October 16, 2025.
Some key points regarding the election are as follows:
As a candidate: Veena Devi is the wife of strongman Suraj
Bhan Singh and will face Anant Singh, a strongman leader of the Janata Dal
United (JDU).
Political Background: Veena Devi has previously served as an MP from Vaishali. RJD has fielded him to challenge Anant Singh's influence in Mokama, where either Anant Singh or his wife Neelam Devi has dominated in the previous elections.
