NFHS has spoken that, there has been an increase in cases of domestic violence against women. According to the National Family Health Survey (NFHS), the worst cases of domestic violence against women are in Karnataka, Assam, Mizoram, Telangana and Bihar. There is a National Family Health Survey conducted in 22 states and union territories of the country. The survey covers 6.1 lakh households across the country, including information on population, health, family planning and nutritional standards through interviews. According to the National Family Health Survey, about 44.4 per cent of women in the age group of 18 to 49 in Karnataka have suffered domestic violence by their husbands, compared to around 20.6 per cent of such women in the state during the 2015-2016 survey.
