The ruling party and the opposition face to face over 'SIR'. There was a huge uproar in the House. BJP retaliated.
It is reported that opposition members forced the Lok Sabha to adjourn the proceedings by raising slogans and waving placards against the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list in Bihar.
There has
been a strong protest by the opposition in both the houses of Parliament, Lok
Sabha and Rajya Sabha, against the special revision process of the voter list
in Bihar. The opposition says that this decision of the Election Commission
tries to influence the elections and tamper with voter data.
All the opposition MPs have protested strongly in the Parliament House premises on the issue of special intensive revision in Bihar. During this, many big faces including Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, Samajwadi Party chief and MP Akhilesh Yadav were involved in this protest.
Opposition
MPs gathered on the stairs of the Makar Dwar of Parliament and raised slogans
against the SIR process. They alleged that it is akin to rigging in the
elections. They were also holding papers with 'SIR: Theft of Indian Rights' and
'SIR: Damaging the Indian Republic' written on them.
The opposition MPs got the Lok Sabha adjourned several times. They kept on raising slogans- 'Take back SIR!' 'Stop messing with the Constitution!'
The BJP hit back at the opposition and alleged that the opposition is opposing this process because it wants to give voting rights to Bangladeshi and Rohingya infiltrators as well.
Senior BJP
leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said, 'India is not a Dharamshala. According to the
Constitution, only Indian citizens can vote. Then why the objection to the
investigation?' He claimed that in Bihar's Araria, Kishanganj and Purnia
districts, more Aadhar cards have been made than the population. Should it not
be checked whether a person is a voter at more than one booth?
Union Minister Giriraj Singh also targeted the opposition and said, 'The opposition is putting pressure on constitutional institutions so that the institutions work according to their instructions. This is a blatant disregard of the Constitution.' He alleged that the opposition wants that Rohingya and Bangladeshi infiltrators should also get the right to vote in India.
The
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) clearly says that this is the decision of the
Election Commission and political parties have no role in it. This is the
strategy of the Election Commission to show the way out to illegal voters
settled in Bihar. By opposing this decision of the Election Commission, the
opposition is proving that these people of the opposition want to keep illegal
voters in Bihar. This attitude of the opposition is hooliganism.
